Our 8th graders took a trip to the Greenburgh Nature Center last week. It was a beautiful to be out, and our students definitely enjoyed their live animal display! Who doesn't like soft furry things??

For the last two years, we celebrate our best PBIS point earners with a trip to Dave & Busters. I am happy to report that this year we were able to bring twice as many students as we did last year. It is so important to celebrate these positives with our students! You know they all had a great time!

Meet Albert Rodriguez, the salutatorian of the graduating class of 2023. Albert has been with us at Greenburgh Academy since 2019. Albert was born in Westchester, but he and his older brother have lived in the Bronx their whole lives. Albert attended Bronx Little School and has always loved art and games. His favorite games are Smash Brothers and Mario Cart, but lately he's been playing a lot of VR (Virtual Reality) games. His favorite class is Digital Arts, and he loves going on school trips. Albert has always looked up to his mother as a source of inspiration and support. Last summer, Albert and his mother went to Universal Studios and they fell in love with Florida. After high school, Albert wants to move to Florida and go to college to study animation so that he can make YouTube videos and inspire other future artists. Throughout his journey, Albert has not only excelled academically, but he has also touched the lives of those of us at Greenburgh Academy. Albert's kindness and love for learning has left an impact on his teachers. Here’s what they had to say in celebration of Albert: This is the second time I’ve had the pleasure to have Albert in one of my classes. It was amazing to see how much he has matured. Albert has always been a gentleman and consistently works hard to achieve his education and displays the true spirit of Greenburgh Academy. Albert, I know you always give 100% and will be successful in your future endeavors. Congratulations, Albert on being the Salutatorian for Greenburgh Academy class of 2023. Mr. Brennan I have had the pleasure of teaching Albert for the past few years. I have seen Albert grow and mature into the outstanding young man that he now is. When in class or out on a class trip, Albert is always willing to participate and bring his positive energy. I am confident that Albert will be successful in any and all of his future plans. Ms. Fuentes Albert is an amazing young man who is caring and extremely intelligent. He was always a delight to have in class and very helpful to his peers. Mr. Boylan Albert!!! Love that guy. It has been such a pleasure to watch him grow. Mr. Lenaburg

Time to celebrate!
On May 16, we had a full day of activities. First, we walked around with a local tour guide and visited some historically significant places all around Berlin, such as the Jewish Memorial, the Brandenburg Gate, various government buildings and the site where Adolf Hitler committed suicide. In the afternoon, we went to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, where we saw first hand the conditions in which the people were detained. We learned what their day to day lives were like between forced labor and the murderous actions carried out against them. We then went out for a German feast, celebrating our last night in Germany. The students did not care much for the food though (pass the hot sauce lol).

On May 19, we packed up our things and headed towards the airport. We stopped along the way at the Miedzyrecki Region Fortified (MRU) Zone, which is a series of defensive bunkers and mazes underground. There are over 100 concrete defense structures spread out over many miles, all interconnected by underground passageways. After that we headed back towards Berlin, to catch our evening flight back to New York.
